Tuku'kam Pleides

This is the story of three women and three kumát -- hats. Coyote wanted to marry and the women did not want to. Coyote sought after the women. They said, "We would come again-- we'd better go to the sky." Coyote looked in the water and saw his reflection and started to holler: "I am dying."

One woman
"Wahita'e" (Coyote bones) came and lifted Coyote by the shoulder. Coyote tried to grab her. She let go, and his bones followed her. The woman and the coyote became the constellation Tuku'kam, the Pleides. (But what happened to the hats?)

Pákuma (Santos Manuel), told to John Harrington, 119, 120.
