The Legend of the White Eagle

The
Aturaviatim had the white eagle with thirteen tail feathers. The Aturaviatim captain carried him under his arm. These eagles are still there-- they are like the earth, they do not die. Once I heard that a male white eagle tried to kill a rabbit by grasping a tree, and that made the white eagle die; but the wife sent for another. When one dies, the wife or husband send for another. They never die. The place is beyond Atanpat.
Pákuma (Santos Manuel) told to J. Harrington, 013.

According to ancient myth, a pure white eagle led the Serrano and Cahuilla people south to the San Bernardino Mountains.
